My Darling

With My Darling, a series of paintings, Marieke Luthart pays tribute to queer lovers. They are depicted by Marieke in the place where they prefer to stay the most. The love between humans and animals and this special bond is the common thread that connects the four paintings. Each painting depicts a time shot of a couple, together on the couch. To create these portraits, Marieke approached members of the queer community and was allowed to enter their home to take a look at a world of lovers. Reflective on the lesbian stereotype “A lesbian, also known as a Cat Lady”, Marieke looked for alternative animals that have made a home within the community. She went in search of other catladies, in search of the relationship between humans and animals and in search of a sense of security.
